SINGERS RAISE THE ROOF AT 'COME AND SING' DAY

The Weatherbury Singers and 39 fellow singers, joined forces at the choir's recent 'Come and Sing' Day at St Georges Church, Fordington, in Dorchester and gave the performance of a lifetime. The days's rehearsal and final performance of Mascagni's 'Easter Hymn', Taverners 'The Lamb' and Mozeart's 'Requiem' were conducted by the choir's Musical Director, James Crawshaw and accompanist, Sam Ryall. Local soloists Martin Weston and Brian Savage were joined by soloists from the Weatherbury Singers: Nicki Brunt, Louisa McNair and Sue Chapman for Mozart's 'Requiem', with Julie Lewis as the soloist in the 'Easter Hymn'. The day was enjoyed by everyone and many of the singers commented on the friendly welcome and the quality of the lunch and tea provided by members of the choir, not to mention the quality of the singing!

In addition to raising the roof the sum of £160 was raised for the Macmillan Cancer Support from donations and the retiring coleection following the performance.

MILTON ABBEY RIDING FOR THE DISABLED

The Weatherbury Singers were pleased to support the Milton Abbey Riding for the Disabled group with a monetary donation from proceeds of the raffle of their 2014 Christmas Concert. The amount raised was £161. Subsequent to that the choir sang carols at The Royal Oak in Milborne St Andrew on December 17th where regulars of the pub also supported the charity. The monies raised from both activities are helping to fund some steps which enable the riders to mount the ponies more easily.

DONATION TO PUDDLETOWN PLAYPARK.

A sum of £151 was raised from the raffle at the choir's Summer Concert in 2014. This has been donated to Puddletown's Playpark Project which will see the current recreational field and facilities enhanced with a skate park and play areas for children of all ages.

MUSICAL DONATION TO ST MARY'S MIDDLE SCHOOL

The choir were delighted to donate £315 to the children for an all-day concert with the Steel Pan Workshop.

The money was collected at the joint Christmas Concert that the school choir and the Weatherbury Singers performed together on December 13th 2013.

The children and the staff thoroughly enjoyed this experience and it was reported that the whole building reverberated to the band and the children's music.

Within four days of their major concert with St Mary's Middle School the choir were again raising funds for charity. The choir joined regulars of the Gaggle of Geese public house and the residents of Buckland Newton for an evening of festive cheer with seasonal songs and carols.

At  the conclusion of the evening £100 had been raised for the Ectodermal Dysplasia Society.
